Fellow Democrats,
If you have visited the JCDC Headquarters in the past couple of weeks you will have noticed that it is really getting crowded. We have taken delivery of 500 Obama /Biden yard signs. We will be asking for a $3 dollar donation as we have to pay for the signs before they will ship them. We are actively working on our FDR Dinner on October 26 which is a Sunday afternoon. With all of the focus on our Congressional, Senate and Presidential elections we expect a large turnout. Please contact Sandy McCann by October 20th so we can order the food.
We have been notified that our next 7th District Congressman Mark Schauer will be in attendance. We are waiting for a response from Carl Levin and Joe Biden. We can still use volunteers during this busy election season. If you a have a few hours you can donate please don’t hesitate to call Sandy Marsh our office manager.
I will call for a JCDC Executive Board meeting in the near future regarding contributions to our State and Federal candidates. When Sandy Marsh has all the beans counted we will have an idea of how much we can disburse. Because of our JCDC growth over the past year we are finally in a position to help our candidates with money.
I will ask the Finance Committee to put together a presentation for our members about how our financial process works and why your dues revenue is so important because of the election finance laws.
We are looking into the possibility of using the Michigan Theater on election night to have a venue for our candidates and for all of our supporters to meet and watch the election results.
We are exploring the possibility of having a worker and volunteer “Thank You” Luncheon like we had two years ago. Our workers and volunteers all do a tremendous job and it is one way to express our gratitude.
That’s All for Now,
Democratically
Leonard Smigielski

Jackson County Democratic Women's Caucus

The Jackson County Democratic Women's Caucus participated in the Fall Women's Expo. About 1500 attended the event on Saturday, October 4th, at Parkside Middle School Fieldhouse. We provided voter registration, absentee voter applications, and candidates' literature. We also held a drawing for a Michigan State Flag that had been flown over the Michigan Capitol building on the anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech. The flag was provided for us by State Senator Mark Schauer's office.

Our Women's Caucus members have been working very hard putting in many volunteer hours for our Democratic Party candidates at every level. The importance of the women's vote cannot be overstated. It is expected to make the difference in several elections this year. Jackson County Democratic Women's Caucus meets regularly on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm at Democratic headquarters, 219 S. Mechanic St, Jackson. Our next meeting will be October 7th at 7:30 because of a fundraising party for Women for Mark Schauer that begins at 5:30 at Bella Notte (only $20 per person!).

Our Mission is to provide active support for policies, programs, and proposals that impact the status of women and families at the local, state, and national level. Please visit our website at www.womenscaucus.org for more information.

Jackson County Democratic Women's Caucus

September Quick Kicks from
The Jackson County Democratic Women’s Caucus
The Women’s Caucus has been working hard to increase our visibility at the same time that our members are putting in many volunteer hours working for our Democratic candidates’ campaigns.
On August 28th we had a table at the party your Jackson County Democratic Committee held at Jackson’s own Michigan Theater. There, with the help of newly installed digital technology, we and about 300 others enjoyed watching Senator Obama’s speech live, on the big screen, accepting the Democratic Party’s nomination for the presidency of our great nation. It felt as if we were really a part of the Denver convention for that historic evening.
Our next project is a booth at the Fall Women’s Expo on Saturday, October 4th, at Parkside Fieldhouse from 10 am to 4 pm, where we will offer useful information provided by Senator Mark Schauer, Representative Mike Simpson, and Representative Marty Griffin, as well as voter registration and absentee ballot applications. In addition, courtesy of State Senator Mark Schauer, we will hold a drawing for an American Flag that has been flown over the Michigan State Capitol in Lansing.
One of our most important objectives this fall is to help Judge Diane Hathaway defeat Clifford Taylor for the Michigan Supreme Court in November. We believe that Justice Taylor and his cronies are firmly in the pockets of the insurance industry, and they do not fairly consider the cases that come before them. Please remind all your friends and acquaintances to turn the ballot over and vote the judges ballot. It’s time for a CHANGE.

Message from the Chairman

Fellow Democrats,
I have just returned from the Democratic National Convention. It was such a tremendous privilege to be a part of history. The convention was well organized and the only glitch for the delegation was the transportation back to the hotel after the Invesco Field speech.
I was present at all of the Pepsi Center functions and the Invesco Field activities. The most emotional event for me was the appearance of “Teddy” Kennedy at the Pepsi Center on the first day of the convention. The Michigan Delegation was seated right up front and to the left if viewed from the podium. For some reason the DNC had Michigan and Florida up at the front of the convention. Go figure?
We are holding our F.D.R. Dinner on October 26, 2008 at the Commonwealth Commerce Center. This is a very important election year so we should have a great group of speakers who will help shape our Nation and State for the future. It is with regret that we were informed of the death of one of our great County Democrats. John Duane past away from A.L.S. and we are diminished!
There is a flyer in this publication for the F.D.R. Dinner. All county wide candidates are encouraged to fill out a candidate application to receive funds from the J.C.D.C.. We have money available for townships and county democratic candidates. If you do not apply you won’t get any. The available funds will be disbursed among the applicants
That's all for now.
Democratically yours,
Leonard Smigielski
